Clerks at 2 Athens stores arrested for selling alcohol, cigarettes to minors in sting operation




ATHENS, Alabama - Two store clerks were arrested after Athens Police Department investigators said they sold alcohol and cigarettes to minors in an undercover operation.
Ajaykumar Govindbhai Patel, 52 of 1834 Clayton Cove, Madion, was charged with selling alcohol to minor and selling cigarettes to a minor at Ankr Food Mart on N. Jefferson Street, according to police Chief Floyd Johnson.
Justin Matthew Ghadimi, 26 of 22045 Dunnavant Cir., Athens, was charged with selling cigarettes to a minor at Elkton Street Grocery. Ghadimi was also charged with second-degree possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
They were booked at Athens City Jail and released on bond.
The men were arrested Friday when investigators conducted an undercover operation using an underage person attempting to buy alcohol and tobacco products. Patel and Ghadimi both sold to the minor, Johnson said.
