Bonhams, 32 modern Greek artists donate works to reduce Greek National Debt

“Ellinogermaniki Agogi”, the educational organization, has successfully collected 32 pieces of art work, which will all be generously donated by some of the most prominent Greek artists to GDF and will be auctioned at particularly low prices by the “Bonhams” house. The majority of paintings and sculptures are revolving around the central core “Europe and Greece” and are donated by famous Greek artists (in alphabetical order): John Adamakis, Kostas Varotsos, Alexis Veroukas, Opi Zouni (with her family donating on her behalf), Christos Karras, Dimosthenis Kokkinidis, Charis Lambert, Afroditi Litti, Tassos Mantzavinos, Natalia Mela, Vaggelis Moustakas, Christos Bokoros, Dimitris Mitaras, Vana Xenou, Theodoros Papagiannis, Aggelos Papadimitriou, Ioannis Parmakellis, Fedon Patrikalakis, Konstantinos Rammos, George Rorris, Edward Sakayan, Paylos Samios, Vassilis Solidakis, Sotiris Sorogas, George Stathopoulos, Nikos Stefanou, Panagiotis Tetsis, Anna Maria Tsakali, Alekos Fasianos, Maria Filopoulou, George Chadoulis and Manolis Charos.
The donation represents an important statement by the concerned citizens of “Ellinogermaniki Agogi” and the donor artists. Proceeds of the auction will flow to GDF and GDF will buy Greek bonds in the international markets at prices much lower than the amount owed by the Greek state. GDF will help reduce the debt through the eventual cancellation of these bonds. GDF will confirm soon after the amount of bonds purchased with the proceeds.
The founder of GDF, Mr. Peter Nomikos, states: "We Greeks are great patriots. We thank Ellinogermaniki Agogi and the Bonhams house for their consciousness and their initiative to help Greece in a clever way. Thousands of people can activate in a different way and on a different scale. That is what Mr Savvas did at Ellinogermaniki Agogi. The Bonhams event serves as an excellent example to us all of creative philanthropy. GDF supports people who want to raise money to fight the debt, it is just a question of desire and support and applying citizens’ creativity to that end. I’m confident that GDF will have the support of Greek people of diaspora in London. We can send our message to the world.”
The auction of the 32 pieces of Greek art will be held on Wednesday the 24th of April 2013 in London (New Bond street) within the Spring Greek Sale by the Bonhams house, whose participation is also donated.
The initiative will be presented in Athens on Monday, the 8th of April 2013, at 12.00p.m. at the premises of Image Gallery (Amalias 36).
