Syriza MEP Manolis Glezos on Monday called for a special discussion on the situation in Greece in the European Parliament, in a proposal submitted to the body's President Martin Schulz.
Glezos said that he was asking for this so that "nobody in the European Parliament can express opinions about Greece without these having the approval of the Parliament."
He went on to criticise Schulz for "going to Greece and expressing some views about the situation [there] without having consulted with the European Parliament or obtaining its approval."
Schulz replied that the MEP's proposal had been submitted too late and suggested that he address the European United Left/Nordic Green Left group, which must submit a relevant proposal to the EP's Conference of Presidents.
