...ο γάτος Κουνκούς...που χάθηκε στη Λέσβο

Μια οικογένεια προσφύγων, μία μητέρα με τα πέντε της παιδιά και ένας γάτος, 
ο Κουνκούς, έφυγαν πέρυσι από τη Μοσούλη για να μην πέσουν στα χέρια 
του Ισλαμικού Κράτους.

Τον περασμένο Νοέμβριο κατάφεραν να φτάσουν όλοι μαζί στη Λέσβο κοντά 
στην Σκάλα Συκαμιάς. Εκεί, την ώρα που η οικογένεια αποβιβαζόταν από τη φουσκωτή βάρκα στην ακτή, το κλουβί μεταφοράς διαλύθηκε και ο Κουνκούς κατατρομαγμένος 
μέσα στην αναταραχή τρόμαξε το έσκασε για να κρυφτεί. 
Η οικογένεια τον αναζήτησε αλλά αναγκάστηκε να συνεχίσει το ταξίδι της προς 
άγνωστη κατεύθυνση χωρίς το τετράποδο μέλος της. 

Λίγες ημέρες αργότερα οι κάτοικοι στον οικισμό της περιοχής παρατήρησαν ότι 
τους ήρθε ένας διαφορετικός επισκέπτης. Ήταν ταλαιπωρημένος και ξεχώριζε από 
τις άλλες γάτες του χωριού. Εκεί βρήκε αγάπη και προστασία από τους χωριανούς 
εθελοντές που δραστηριοποιούνται στο νησί. 
Τον τάισαν και τον προτάτεψαν από τα άλλα αδέσποτα που τον αντιμετώπισαν 
ως εισβολέα, τον πότισαν, τον κούρεψαν και τον πήγαν στον κτηνίατρο. 
Δεν ήξεραν το αληθινό όνομά του και τον βάφτισαν Δία. 

Η Αμι Σροντς και η Άσλεϊ Αντερσον, εθελόντριες έφτιαξαν μία σελίδα στο Facebook, 
την κοινότητα «Reunite Dias» https://www.facebook.com/kunkushdias/photos/a.512082418951407.1073741828.511980215628294/532026940290288/?type=3&theater 
και λογαριασμό στο Twitter @DiasTheCat me hashtag #reunitedias για να βρει 
ο Δίας την οικογένεια του. 

Η Αμι Σροντς λέει ότι ο Δίας σώθηκε εξαιτίας και της φροντίδας που του παρείχε κυρίως 
ο Ιγνάτιος Καζαντζόγλου, ο ιδιοκτήτης ξενώνα στον Μόλυβο όπου έμενε ο γάτος. 
Ο κ. Καζαντζόγλου εξηγούσε στις εθελόντριες ότι προέρχεται και ο ίδιος από οικογένεια προσφύγων και θα έκανε ό,τι μπορούσε να βοηθήσει το ζώο. 

Η έως τότε γνωστή ιστορία του Δία κίνησε το ενδιαφέρον μία γυναίκας από το Βερολίνο, που δέχτηκε να γίνει ανάδοχος, να τον φιλοξενήσει στο σπίτι της και αν δεν εντοπιστεί 
η οικογένεια του να τον υιοθετήσει. 
Στις 4 Ιανουαρίου ο γάτος ταξίδεψε μαζί με την Αμι Σροντς για το Βερολίνο. 

Η αναζήτηση μέσω του Internet συνεχίστηκε και πριν από λίγες ημέρες η οικογένεια 
από τη Μοσούλη έδωσε σημεία ζωής από τη Νορβηγία. 
Επικοινώνησε με την ανάδοχο μέσω Skype και έδωσε στοιχεία που αποδείκνυαν 
ότι ο Δίας και ο Κουνκούς είναι οι ίδιοι γάτοι. 
Εξάλλου ο ίδιος άκουγε στο όνομα Κουνκούς. 

...και...η «Οδύσσεια» του Κουνκούς έλαβε ευτυχισμένο τέλος. 
Ταξίδεψε στη Νορβηγία και βρέθηκε στην αγκαλιά της οικογένειάς του. 
Οι σκηνές που εκτυλίχθηκαν ήταν κάτι παραπάνω από συγκινητικές.

This story has been one of Hope.
It demonstrates that the barriers we create that separate us are ones we create in our own minds.
We’d like to take a minute to thank all that were involved in Kunkush’s rescue.

Thank you to Amy Shrodes and Ashley Anderson for not letting others discourage your heart and what you believe is right. Taking the first step is hard but you both showed that having faith in yourself and others makes it easier.
Thank you to Michelle Nhin for wanting to get involved from afar and putting her social media savviness to very good use. This incredible cat lover has been basing out of Oklahoma the whole time! Michelle created the Facebook, Twitter, GoFundMe and e-mail accounts for this effort. Her efforts have proven that no matter where you are in the world, thanks to the web that connects us all, you can be of service for a cause that you’re passionate about.

This foster couple made a huge difference for this little guy.
Like a true mom, Emma gave him meds when he wasn’t feeling well and made sure he never missed a meal time. His foster dad, Simon, shared lots of sweet cuddle time with him.
