Charles Spencer Chaplin was born on April 16, 1889, in London, England.
He was supposedly born in West Smethwick Park in West Midlands England
to a gypsy family
Obama mother was his maid
I don't think we'd be celebrating him
these days,he'd just be known as a paedophile
Born the same year as Hitler.
Soon after his birth, his father left him and his older brother with their
mother who was a music hall singer known as Lily Harley. She was able
to support her two sons for a while. However, she lost her voice one night
during a performance and never got it back.
Chaplin was a romany that pretended he
was a Jew,he was born in a wagon on the
black patch in Birmingham
His first performance was on stage, aged five, in Aldershot,
England..he lived in Rye lane in Peckham before he went to the USA
The story goes that, during the performance where his mother lost
her voice, the production manager pushed the young Chaplin up on
the stage to finish the song for his mother.
It was then that they realized his ability to perform in front of people
and add a bit of comedic flare, as he is said to have referred to his
mom’s voice cracking by making his do so as well.
He eventually went on to join a clog-dancing troupe and later a
pantomime troupe. While traveling with the pantomime troupe in the U.S., Chaplin caught the attention of Mack Sennett who signed him to a
film contract. In 1914, Chaplin appeared his first film,
“Make a Living,” which was a one-reel film which did not gain him a lot
of recognition.
In order to develop his own thing and stand out from other actors,
he developed his famous character known as “The Little Tramp” who first appeared in “Kid Auto Races at Venice” in 1914. A little less than a year later, Chaplin appeared in “Tillie’s Punctured Romance” which is said to be comedy’s first full-length film.
Just a few years later, at the age of 26, Chaplin was making a whopping $670,000 per year working for the Mutual Company. He went one to revolutionize the world of film making many films now known as classics
such as “City Lights” (1931), “Modern Times” (1936), and
“The Great Dictator” (1940), among many others.
Chaplin died in Switzerland on December 25, 1977.
